Firm History

Sullivan & Company was founded in 1975 by Timothy J. Sullivan, who continues to head the firm today as managing partner.  With more than sixty professionals  in our contemporary office space located in the Foundry Complex, the firm works with privately held and family-owned businesses and not-for-profit organizations in diversified industries such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing and distribution, hospitality and technology … to name a few.

 

While the last thirty-five years saw many changes in the business world including the progression from platform shoes to stilettos, wide neckties to skinny ties, and snail mail to e-mail, our firm has marked many of our own major milestones. We were among the first local CPA firms to be fully computerized in the early 1980s. In some instances, using “portable” computers in our clients’ offices caused quite the sensation.

 

Ray Murphy joined us in 1991 bringing with him an array of sophisticated clients and his own stellar experience and marketing savvy. Ray led the charge to embrace the Internet, launch our first web site, and initiate our Economic Outlook Breakfast which has become our signature event. In 2006, our firm was strengthened by the merger with Syner, Cavallaro and Cabral, adding breadth and depth to our public-companies and international tax know-how, and experienced professionals who served in both private industry as controllers and chief financial officers and in “big four” public accounting firms.

 

With our unparalleled rate of employee retention, our firm enjoys a history rich in the personal milestones we have celebrated together including marriages, birthdays,  and graduations .........and, of course, the completion of 35 successful tax seasons. We invite you to review our timeline which spans the firm’s growth from 1975 to the merger with Syner, Cavallaro & Cabral in 2006, and hope you will be part of our current and continuing history at Sullivan & Company.
