Firm History

Sullivan & Company was founded in 1975 by Timothy J. Sullivan, who continues to head the firm today as managing partner. We have grown from three professionals in 1975 to eight professionals in 1982 to more than 65 professionals working hand-in-hand in our contemporary office space located in the Foundry Complex.

During the last 35 years, Sullivan & Company has expanded our people and practice, the accounting environment in which we live has dramatically changed, and our clients have grown and flourished … all over periods of both robust prosperity and economic challenges. Our commitment to the highest quality of professionalism and service, however, has remained steadfast.

We work with privately held and family-owned businesses and not-for-profit organizations in diversified industries such as life sciences and technology; healthcare and not-for-profit; construction, manufacturing and distribution; and hospitality … to name a few.

Our evolution has continued throughout the last 35 years. Ray Murphy and his clients from Murphy & Company joined us in 1991. As our clients grew and prospered, and expanded their business and operations abroad, Sullivan & Company enhanced our capabilities in international tax and governance issues.

In 2006, our firm was strengthened by the merger with Syner, Cavallaro and Cabral, adding breadth and depth to our public-companies expertise and international tax know-how, and experienced professionals who served in both private industry as controllers and chief financial officers and in “big four” public accounting firms. Two acquisitions in 2011 have further expanded our staff and capabilities and resources.

Today, we continue to use the latest in accounting technology and software, we maintain a paperless office and many environmentally friendly initiatives, and we offer our clients a special web portal to transmit documents in a secure and confidential environment. With our stellar rate of employee retention and our long-term client relationships – many lasting for decades - Sullivan & Company enjoys a history rich in the personal milestones we have celebrated together including marriages, birthdays, and graduations .........and, of course, the completion of 35 successful tax seasons!
